What's on this agenda

Orange County's Commission for the Environment considers a petition to widen its Community Climate Action Grant fund. County Commissioner Sally Greene wants the fund to cover climate adaptation, not only mitigation. The commission also plans to approve a final draft of its annual report and work plan, due to the clerk's office in January. It will also decide whether to keep sponsoring the Nature of Orange photo contest.

The agenda sets aside time for a State of the Environment report round table and sub-committee breakouts on the year's projects. It also lists updates on the commission's RIPPLE environmental awards.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The commission voted to support Commissioner Sally Greene's petition widening the Community Climate Action Grant fund to cover climate adaptation as well as mitigation. It was the only split vote of the night: one member voted no and the vice chair abstained.

Before voting, the commission compared how the grant process works now against the petition's proposal. Members agreed some things need to change before next year's round regardless.

How the votes went

Four motions. Approving the November 10 meeting summary, renewing the photo contest sponsorship, and approving the annual report and work plan all passed unanimously. Supporting the climate action grant petition passed with one member opposed and the vice chair abstaining.
