Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
Eight members attended. The county's environmental quality director reported that the planning board had received the committee's core principles and guidance for regulating data centers, and the committee discussed the need to revisit the by-right permit criteria in the zoning ordinance. A member was asked to circulate what other North Carolina counties do, naming Nash, Warren and Edgecombe as requiring special use permits for data centers.
Enbridge's proposed 28-mile gas pipeline through the county came up as a new issue, which members connected to the data center development planned at Moncure. One member reported that affected landowners were seeking legal representation and was asked to continue that outreach.
On the climate action plan, proposals were due 29 June and would be reviewed by a team of three. The committee also took updates on the Electrify campaign and on energy audits completed for county buildings, and noted a vacancy to fill after a member's resignation.
