Agenda document Full packet Watch
What is in the packet
The front of the packet carries the $2,996,226 National Park Service grant application for Ailey Young Park, which commits the town to an equal match, and the August financial summaries. It also includes the draft agenda for 20 October, whose main item is a 16.38-acre annexation at 4925 Unicon Drive for South Forest LLC. Most of it is the RZ-24-03 file. The 2015 master plan for the 61 Franklin Street Townes homes included a pool and clubhouse that were never built. The new plan offers a 10-by-10-foot canopy, a playground and landscaping on the 4.81-acre parcel at 0 Franklin Park Avenue, PIN 1840571129. It shows 95,431 square feet of park space against 14,440 required. Staff ask the board to approve or deny and make no recommendation either way.

What's on this agenda
Wake Forest commissioners hold a public hearing Tuesday on RZ-24-03, a rezoning of the 4.81-acre common area in the Franklin Street Townes development at South Franklin Street and the 98 Bypass. The board approved the 61-home townhouse master plan in 2015 with a pool and clubhouse. In 2021 the developer told the town it would not build them. The rezoning would replace them with a 10-by-10-foot prefabricated canopy, a playground and landscaping, which staff say meets the ordinance's open space and park space minimums. The Planning Board found it consistent with the Community Plan and recommended approval 6-0 on 8 September. The board may vote the same night.
The board also considers applying for a $2,996,226 National Park Service grant toward renovating Ailey Young Park, which would need a dollar-for-dollar match. The rest of the session covers the August financial report and the draft agenda for the 20 October regular meeting.
