What's on this agenda

Evolve Companies wants to rezone 5.83 acres on Star Road for Hawthorne Wake Forest Phase 2. The Planning Board voted 5-1 against it, finding the project inconsistent with the town's Community Plan and recommending denial. Kimley-Horn, filing for the separate Wake Union project, wants to rezone 71.46 acres near Wake Union Church Road and Capital Boulevard for a mixed-use development. The Planning Board voted 5-1 to recommend approval, with two added conditions. Open space at the townhome site can no longer count walking trails or community gardens, and all buildings are capped at three stories. The applicant agreed to both.

The board also considers introducing four bond orders for a $75 million referendum on November 8, 2022. They break down into $23.72 million for roads and transportation and $24.43 million for parks and recreation. Another $14.35 million would go to greenways and $12.5 million to parking facilities. Introducing the orders sets a July 19 public hearing. A separate item would update Chapters 1 and 8 of the Unified Development Ordinance; the Planning Board voted 6-0 to recommend approval. The board also plans a closed session on pending litigation, Fred Smith FSC II, LLC dba Fred Smith Company v. Town of Wake Forest.
