What's on this agenda

Chatham County's commissioners held the public hearing on the draft Unified Development Ordinance on 7 October 2024, and heard where the county's three water districts stand in the TriRiver merger talks.

They also bought the Johnson Heirs parcel on Bynum Beach Road for $43,000, a tract beside the South Bynum river access.

All five commissioners attended and the votes carried 5-0.

Eleven people spoke, mostly on the draft ordinance. The board asked staff and the consultants to bring the ordinance back on 21 October with more information, and had no further questions when the item returned later that evening.

On water, the county manager traced the districts back to 2004, when the Northwest, Southwest and Southeast districts were established by resolution and residents voted in a special election on bonds for water facilities. Those districts merged into Sanford's system a month later.

The Johnson Heirs purchase closed a gap beside the Lower Haw State Natural Area. The Recreation Advisory Committee walked the tract the following March, where staff had begun marking native species ahead of invasive removal.
