Chatham County commissioners' July 27 session is one of the heaviest of the summer. On the consent agenda, the board votes to direct the county attorney to send notice terminating the economic development agreement between the county and VinFast Manufacturing USA, LLC -- ending an incentive deal for the electric vehicle plant. Also on consent: a $424,550 five-year contract with Priority Dispatch for the Emergency Communications Center, additional Farmland Preservation Fund money for the Dry Creek Farm conservation easement, a quasi-judicial approval of a 199-foot wireless tower near Goldston, and interlocal tax-collection agreements with Pittsboro, Apex, Cary, Goldston, and Siler City. The board also announces a special meeting for public comment on the proposed Enbridge Gas pipeline expansion (held the following week) and adopts a resolution backing the Downtown Pittsboro Public Properties Pre-Development Analysis.

The evening's public hearings and land-use votes are substantial: a legislative rezoning by Fearrington Property Development, LLC of roughly 372 acres off Andrews Store, Parker Herndon, and Morris roads from Residential to a Conditional District Compact Community; a vote on EC PROPCO, LLC's 292-acre rezoning from Residential to Heavy Industrial off Christian Chapel Church Road; and first-plat approvals for two large subdivisions -- Webster Farm (132 lots on 183 acres) and Hickory Mountain Reserve (48 lots on 164 acres).
