Orange County's transit tax district staff working group votes September 16 on $113,000 of second-quarter changes to the FY27 transit work program, then sends them out for public comment. The largest piece is a $33,000 Orange share of a $100,000 alternatives analysis for bus lanes on NC 54 between US 15-501 and Interstate 40. GoTriangle wants the study done now because NCDOT is already running environmental work on that stretch, and the corridor is part of the Chapel Hill to Triangle Town Center project that scored highest of any regional transit project in SPOT 8.0. Durham's transit plan would pay the other 67 percent.

The rest is operating money. GoTriangle asks for five more weekday revenue hours on Route 800, which runs between UNC Hospitals and the Regional Transit Center by way of Southpoint and RTP. Boardings there rose 29 percent over the past year and round trips routinely run past 120 minutes, putting the route behind schedule. GoTriangle also wants $32,438 more for the Transit Assistance Program, which paid for more than 400,000 fully subsidized trips in FY25 against an $82,500 budget. Orange County asks for $60,000 for marketing and public engagement ahead of the transit plan update, and $20,000 more for the working group's own administrator.
